This isn't just an ordinary lampshade making course! This is a traditional, hand bound and stitched lampshade making course.

On this two-day course you will learn how to tailor make, shaped and hand stitched lampshades. The course is suitable for lampshade beginners and those with experience who want to expand and further their skills. The focus will be on learning core skills, taking time to explore the creative possibilities and enabling you to progress to new shapes, sizes and styles at home. You’ll probably go home with two different finished shades but the emphasis will be on learning rather than rushing to finish pieces. Our aim is that you leave well equipped for many years of inspired lampshade making.

You will make a soft lampshade lined and a firm lampshade. Both of these will be hand sewn and involve binding the wire frame of your choice. You will learn more than you thought possible in such a short time.

You will have extra time to focus on the one that you find more challenging or if you would prefer, the one you like the most.

We will cover different finishing trims and techniques as well as pleated/pin tuck techniques.

If you've ever wanted to make a WOW lampshade then these are the skills you need to learn.

All materials are included but if you have a particular fabric you would like to use then please bring it with you. You will need 1 meter of silk or light weight cotton for this course.

This course is taught by the very talented Ian McQueen.  Ian has been making bespoke lampshades for the design industry in London for many years.
